This year we are celebrating 95 Continuous Years of Scouting!

We meet on Monday Nights at Trinity United Church of Christ at the corner of Fulton and Blackburn Roads across from the former Johnny Applecheese. For directions, please click here. We meet from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.

The Baden-Powell Institute is this Saturday February 13, 2010 (tentatively) at the Kent State University - Stark Campus Conference Center. The training will begin at 8:30am and last until around 3:00pm. Lunch will be provided.

The Ceremony Team should meet at Trinity at 5:30pm tonight Monday February 8, 2010 so we can set up for Mike Matovich's Eagle Scout Ceremony. Any scouts that are interested in helping set up Fellowship Hall are also welcome to come and help. Please remember to invite your families to this ceremony as we honor our newest Eagle Scout.

Scout Sunday will be February 14, 2010. The Troop and Pack will meet in Fellowship Hall between 8:30am and 8:50am and then make our way to the Sanctuary as a group.

There is a new web blog that includes information about Camp Calumet and its fate. You can visit the site here: http://t4eagle137.wordpress.com.

Mr. Boyle will also be having auditions for the Indian Ceremony Team. He needs to put together another team of Indians in order to have backups for the other team, they will not be expected to participate in every ceremony. If there is a particular part one would like to have, speak with Mr. Boyle.

Ceremony Team members should be reviewing their lines for all the ceremonies. There are at least 2 scheduled within the next couple months.

12th Edition BSA Handbook
The new edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is now available a the Buckeye Council Scout Shop and online at Scoutstuff.org.

The new book offers detailed instructions and information on what is needed for the requirements. The book also includes the updated requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life.

Effective January 1, 2010
On January 1, 2010 the new requirements will go into effect. If a scout has started the requirements for any rank before new requirements go into effect, he can finish that rank under those requirements. Any rank that is pursued after that must use the new requirements.

Scouts are encouraged to bring a friend with them to Meetings or Campouts. To bring a friend on a campout, simply have them return a permission form and an Emergency Care Form. Both forms can be found in the Files link to the right. Friends will only be allowed to visit on one campout, afterwards they are encouraged to join the Troop.

100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced today that nominations are open in the Buckeye Council in Canton and across the country for the BSA 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership.

The 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership is an opportunity for anyone to recognize outstanding leadership by a Scout, registered Scout leader, or Scouting volunteer who made a significant difference in the life of another by the extraordinary service they have given and the Scouting virtues they have modeled.

"This is a one-time opportunity to honor, recognize, and thank Scouts, leaders and any living person who has served as a Scouting volunteer from across the country for the extraordinary difference they have made in the lives of others through their leadership," said Bill Allen, the Buckeye Council, Hall of Leadership Chairman. "We can't think of a better way to help celebrate Scouting's 100th Anniversary than by giving the citizens of the communities Scouting serves the opportunity to remember and honor these individuals in the Buckeye Council who have made such a significant contribution to the lives of others and improved the quality of life for all."

Inductions to the 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership will be based on stories submitted online to local BSA councils across the U.S. and reviewed by a national panel of judges. Those stories must explain how nominees made an extraordinary difference in the lives of others through their leadership.

Nominations will be posted through the Hall of Leadership section of Scouting.org/100years. Each online nomination is submitted in the form of a story and must be 450 words or less. The nomination period closes April 2, 2010, which marks the 100th anniversary of the country's largest youth-serving organization. Judging will then begin for the final inductees to the 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership.

The roster of inductees will be announced at the BSA National Annual Meeting in Dallas in July 2010. The National Hall of Leadership is just one of many programs being unveiled this year as part of Scouting's 100th Anniversary Celebration.

We will not be meeting on December 30th to give families to enjoy the holidays together.

Regular Monday night meetings will resume on January 4, 2010.

2010 Buckeye Council Shoulder Patch Design Contest

To help celebrate Scouting's 100th Anniversary, the Buckeye Council, will conduct a contest to design a new council shoulder strip patch. We are looking for our Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Leaders to design a new patch that will reflect the rich heritage of Northeast Ohio and to help identify Scouting. Buckeye Council will introduce 3 new Council Strip Patches to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Summer Camp 7/5 - 7/11

Here is some final information on Summer Camp:

The Troop will meet on Sunday July 5 in the parking lot of Acme Foods on Whipple Ave. behind Sheetz. Contrary to the letter sent home, we will be meeting at 8:30am and depart for camp promtply at 9:00am. Parents/Guardians will be expected to transport their Scout(s) down to camp. If transportation is not available, parents/guardians will be responsible for finding alternative transportation to camp or speak with Mr. Bohn. Parents will also be responsible for picking up their Scout(s) on Saturday July 11 between 10:00am and 10:30am.

Any Scout(s) that cannot meet at Acme on Sunday should report to Seven Ranges Scout Reservation in Kensington, OH no later than 12:30pm at the Camp Calumet pavillion. **Instructions are available to download from the Files page or this message.**

Parents or guardians that wish to send mail to their Scout(s) during camp may do so using the following address:

Wednesday July 9 is Guest Day at Seven Ranges. Parents/guardians should arrive at the Deaver Administration Building (approximately 1/2 mile down Meter Rd. from the Camp Calumet entrance) and sign in. Afterwards, guests must be accompanied by a member of Troop #4. At the end of your visit be sure to sign out at the Administration Building.

Should an emergency arise at home that should require you to contact your Scout(s), the phone number for Seven Ranges is 330-738-2085. Cell phones will not be permitted at camp, Scouts that need to call home can use the pay phone at the Administration Building or in an emergency use a phone in the Administration Building.

Remember, all Merit Badge Prerequisites must be completed before camp. ALL SCOUTS MUST BRING A BUNDLE OF PIPESTONE WOOD TO QUALIFY FOR THE CAMP HONORS PROGRAM

Fall Planning Meeting

The Fall Planning Meeting will be held on Saturday August 23.

Adults (and accompanying Scouts) will meet at Samantha's Restaurant at 8:00am for breakfast. All other Scouts and attendees should meet at Trinity United Church of Christ at 9:00am. The Meeting will last approximately an hour.

All Scouts and Leaders are encouraged to attend. If Scouts or Leaders are not able to attend the Meeting, please send an e-mail to Mr. Boyle using the Contact Us link to the left and let your ideas or concerns be known.
